ARE YOU UNDERESTIMATING YOUR VALUE WHERE YOU ARE?

Welcome to February’s Word for the Month, and a special welcome to anyone joining us for the first time. May God bless you richly as you read on. At the end there is a prayer, and a blessing on video.

From the moment you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, you obtained full access into the family of God. The covenant promises are now yours. You became a joint heir with Christ of all that He won through His death, resurrection, and ascension. Though you were lost, you were found. Once blind, yet now you see. Empty, but now filled. Living in darkness, yet now living in light. Once you were under condemnation, now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. You are, positionally, already seated with Christ in the heavenly places.

Alongside your privileges obtained by becoming a child of God came renewed hope for the world. How, you ask? Because the Spirit of Jesus dwells within you. You carry within you the presence of the Author of life, the Redeemer, the very Son of God. Where you go He goes, for He is in you, the hope of the world. You are called to be a carrier of his presence.

Alongside such blessings – everything God freely and lovingly gives you as totally unearned riches – come responsibilities. You became a child of God who is invited to labour alongside his Father. There is strategic purpose for your life, and you are privileged to walk in it. How might you do that?

The starting point is to understand God’s overarching purpose in the world, and for your community. That is simple – the bible is totally clear about it. His desire is that his kingdom might come on earth, and his will be done on earth, until earth looks just like heaven. In fact, we read that at the end of the current age, heaven itself will come to earth and both earth and heaven will be united into one, under the headship of Jesus Christ.

Your calling, and mine, is that we act as interceders and ambassadors for the breaking in of the kingdom of God with power where we are, so that Satan’s local power is shattered, resulting in the liberation and transformation of lives and communities as people discover the risen Jesus and submit to Him as Lord.

How are we to be useful to God and fulfil our mission?

When we understand that God’s heart is breaking for the lost and hurting lives around us and wants to set them free and bless them, we stop judging them and start to walk in grace. The first thing is to pray for them. How?

Here’s a starter. Why not start with something like the following: “Father, I believe that your heart grieves over the lost lives in my community. I know that you long for heaven to come to earth; for all other agendas to be humbled before your loving and righteous authority. Father, I lift the people up to you in the name of Jesus and according to your word. Will you send dreams and visions of Jesus the Saviour to the people who are in ignorance of your love for them. Will you cause believers to keep coming across their paths, leading to conversations that help them along the way to salvation.”

The second way we can serve is by speaking blessings over your community. Something like:
“People, I agree with God’s purposes to bless you and bring you into a living revelation of Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, alive for evermore. I agree with my heavenly Father that his love and salvation might flood your hearts with good things. So I speak over you, ‘The blessings of the Lord be upon you, and I bless you in Jesus’ name.’”

Thirdly, be practical wherever possible. Be quick to help; quick to smile; quick to serve; quick to support with time and finance if possible.

Fourth, commit yourself to asking God if He wants you to do something or say something whenever you meet people. Don’t be religious; don’t think it means that you must mention Jesus or get your Bible out whenever someone encounters you. Just allow the Holy Spirit to fill you and guide you; keep your ears open and your mouth shut unless He gives you something specific.

Of course, there are many other things you could be doing too, but these are starters. Try them out and then leave a note to encourage us all by your experiences.

A PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for rescuing me and making me your child. Please take away any spirit of judgement or condemnation that rises in me against people when I recognise sinful behaviour in them. Help me to love them as you love them. Let salvation come quickly.

I present my whole self to you as a living sacrifice. Please take me, keep purifying me, and use me for the salvation and blessing of others. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, here in my community. Send dreams and visions of Jesus to the unbelievers around me. Please enable me and my fellow Christians to be quick with the right word of encouragement when I meet my neighbours.
In Jesus Name. Amen.
